So, I decide to change the way I live. I’ve dreamed of finding Mr. Right, getting married and settling down. But guys run for the hills when they find out who I am, or they only want me for my money. I can’t deal with this anymore. I’ve had a great life though, again…..never wanting for anything. There has to be so much more to this world than having everything handed to you on the proverbial silver spoon.

As I mentally prepare for the changes upcoming in my life, Holland walks right into my room without knocking. “Clare? What are you doing in here? I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”

“I’ve been right here, thinking.”

“What about?” She asks as she sits down on the bed next to me.

“Life in general.”

She nods, staring at our faces in the mirror.

“Yeah, it’s great it?” She smiles as she lays back on the bed, her lavender skirt hiking up on her legs, exposing thigh high stockings. I stare for a brief moment, wondering why she’d have on thigh highs, but then I remember the Mabry twins and it all makes sense.

“No, actually it isn’t,” I say as I stand up and brush my hands down my skirt in a feeble attempt to straighten the now wrinkled chiffon.

Holland sits up and stares at me in confusion.

“Is this all there is?” I ask as I wave my hand like a model at a car show.

“What do you mean?” She asks, one eyebrow raised.

“This! All of this!” I say as I twirl like a ballerina. “There has to be more in life than this.”

“I’m sorry Clarity, but I’m not getting it.”

“I’ve had enough of this,” I say again as I glance around the room. “I want to be a normal person, Hol. I want to settle down, get married. Squeeze out a few rug rats, have a normal life. I wanna be like everyone else.”

“Okay, you’re freaking me out. What the fuck are you talking about?”

“You really don’t get it do you?” I say as I storm out of the room, but she catches the door and follows me out.

“Clare, stop! Explain it to me. What are you talking about?” She asks again.

I stop and slowly turn back to her. She’s standing there with her hands on her hips.

“These!” I scream, as I pull my designer shoes off and throw them down the hall. I walk into the hall bathroom and wet a wash cloth and proceed to wash my face. “This!” I scream once again as I frantically wash my make up off. Then I stomp back into my room and open the dresser, yanking out a pair of jeans and a tee shirt, silently thankful that I keep spare clothes here for these weekends. It’s bad enough that I have to ride here via limo, but having to go home the next day in the same dress is mortifying. I realize how that sounds as I turn my back towards Holland.

“Unzip me please.” I ask, quietly but demanding.

“What are you doing?” She asks again, this time fear in her eyes.

“I’m changing clothes, what does it look like I’m doing?” I snap at her. I know this isn’t her fault, but she should be seeing this the way I am. She’s wealthy too, though not as wealthy as I am. I cringe on the inside as I think those words.

“But there’s a party going on outside.” She says as she complies and lowers my zipper.

The dress slides down my body into a puddle on the floor. I yank on the tee shirt and jeans and find my loafers in the closet.

“I. Am. Done. Done with this life, done with being a selfish bitch and done with money. I’m getting out, Holland. O U T! I want to live a different life, one with meaning. One without rules, standards and etiquette. I wanna be a woman, not a pawn in daddy’s world. I want to make my own money, live my own life. And this,” I say as I once again wave my hand around my old bedroom, “Ends today.”

“Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.” ― Oscar Wilde

Author Nicola Royse dreamed of Scottish Highlanders as a teen then wrote about them as an adult. Always looking but never finding her own White Knight, she still held out hope that he would one day ride up on his trusty steed. He rode up all right, on a silver Harley with heat in his eyes and a detective’s badge on his hip while she and her friends plotted her first contemporary romantic suspense. Of course, life couldn’t’ imitate art without a killer on the loose, one that had Nicola and her friends in his sights.

Detective Dallas Vaughn dedicated his life to catching killers. Then one day he bumped into the girl-next-door, and all that changed. Now he’s her White Knight fighting against a Dark Prince—one who would love to see her dead.

“Sweetheart, I’m a cop.  I don’t take anything at face value, nor do I assume.  I’d been thinkin’ about the taste of your lips since the first time you spilled coffee on me.  Since an opportunity presented itself, I took it,” he answered with a shrug.  “As for yesterday, I decided I was done thinkin’ about the taste of your lips and was putting you on notice.”  I didn’t know what to do with all that, but something he said caught my attention more than his thinking he could put me on notice—whatever that meant. And since I clearly liked to embarrass myself, and he was willing to answer, I decided to go for the gusto. Drawing in a deep breath for courage, I leaned forward and asked, “Um, how exactly did I taste?” I really needed to know the answer to this. I’ve written this scene a hundred times, the one where the hero talks about a woman tasting sweet like honey, and I had to know if it was true.

Dallas’ eyes seemed to turn from a rich honey to a darker amber color, and the air around us hummed with energy as he stared back at me. My heart started beating rapidly when he leaned forward, so only I could hear, and whispered, “Like apple pie and sex.”

“Really?” I whispered back as my gaze moved to his lips, wondering if he would ever kiss me again.

“Nicola.” “Yeah?” I answered as I thought about nipping his lower lip, then sucking it into my mouth.

“If you don’t stop starin’ at my lips I’m gonna haul you out of that chair and kiss you until your legs give out. Then I’ll carry you to my car and everyone in this place will know exactly what we’re doin’.” “Does that really happen?” I breathed out as my eyes shot to his.

Clearly, something about this guy brought out my inner hussy since the thought of sex in his car wasn’t exactly the deterrent he thought it was. I was honestly considering testing the truthfulness of his statement.

“Does what really happen?” “Being kissed so thoroughly your legs go weak.” “Babe,” was his only reply, as if I’d insulted his ability to kiss me senseless. “Oh, wow.” I sighed. His response . . . “You better fuckin’ believe it!”

Dallas & Nicola

Wait!   What? Holy freakin’ hell… what just happened? Ok… deep breaths… (cracks knuckles)… Sooooo, this is another one of those wild CP Smith books with murder, suspense, and believe it or not.. I laughed my ass off reading this one too!! We got hot cops, sexy FBI agents, funny as all get out coffee clutches, temping twin brothers, and see through spandex… what more could you want? I am now complete!

This one is a little different than other CP books. It’s more “in your face” kinda suspense. More graphic and more involved. I felt more for these characters and their losses than I have in other books. It felt very personal to me and I connected to the story and the characters on so many levels. Right up until the end my heart felt like it was going to leap outta my chest. I loved every second of it!

Nicola Royse a.k.a. Grace Martin is a Historical Romance writer, writing about sexy Highlanders wearing kilts… when she tries her hand at Contemporary Suspense, things start to ensue. I wouldn’t say they’re all dreadful things… but holy cow.. this shit really hit the fan! Nic is all kinds of wonderful. She’s blonde, she’s funny, and she’s smart. She made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. When she knocks that perp over with the car door and says “You have the right to be a douche bag, anything you say can and will be used against you cause you’re a douch bag.” I was laughing my ass off, I even had to go get the hubs and tell him about that part.

Dallas Vaughn is all kinds of man-candy! He’s a cop for the Tulsa PD and he rides a motorcycle. Mmmmm, panties are moist now! Longer dark brown hair and eyes like a honey colored sun. He’s a divorcee from a complete bitch, but with Nic he’s got a “slow but firm hand!” Yowza! He’s all alpha and then some. I gotta tell you, in that bathroom scene near the beginning, I nearly spontaneously combusted. The way he touched Nic and the things he said to her are forever ingrained in my brain. Whoa!

The supporting character cast in this books was (for me) the icing on the cake. Her girlfriends, oh, her girlfriends… best group of girls since I read the Rock Chick series! Those girlfriends of Nic’s… Kacey, Janeane, Kristina, and Angela are simply put, awesome. They fuck with her, make fun of her, but are there to love and hug her when she needed it.   Some of the shit that came outta their mouths… “He saw your golden pussy!” The spandex and sunlight part… I’m laughing right now… Nice Twatus Maximus!

Nic’s two brothers, Bo and Finn (Frack & Frick) made for great sibs. They seemed to be always around and hovering… but that’s just what brothers are for, right? That and to come over unannounced and eat all your food and drink all your beer… Oh and try to ward off an interested cop… Good luck boyz! I liked their terms for the 21st century… Asshole, Douche Bag, or Rat Bastard! Those two are amazeballs! I am totally DTF either one of these!! LOL!

Of course no romance suspense book would be whole without the perfect criminal. I can’t tell you who that is or even hint at it or I’ll spoil the story for you… but just beware… with CP books, you’ll never figure it out till the very end! And this one is no different in that department. The killer is savvy, smart, and very disturbed. Well, you’ll see… I’m a little worried about CP, if she can write such a fucked up person… what the hell goes on in her noggin’?   Perhaps I should get her some help… bwhahaha!

So, from sippin’ on some delicious coffee at Gypsy’s Coffee House (and pouring some on your favorite hot cop), to book signings with inquisitive patrons at Gardner’s Used Books, to Porn Bingo at Smokey Joe’s and then onto McNellie’s Public House to have some burgers, beer, and a game of darts or pool… I am thoroughly sated. I wanna hump Triple D (Drop Dead Delicious) Dallas, I wanna join up with Nic’s posse and surf some dating sights, and I most definitely wanna hire Nic’s brothers to renovate my entire house in the nude or maybe wearing kilts!

To wrap this up, Property Of was perfect. The pacing was steady and fast moving. It kept me hooked to every word and wanting more. The dialogue flows very natural and shows us a story as opposed to telling us one. The anxiety leading up to the climax is one I won’t soon forget. This book is dealing with some darker subjects and can be somewhat graphic at times, but for this reader that just added to the anticipation and made it that much better. It was effortless to read and I’m looking forward to more books by CP Smith.
