✩★✩NEW RELEASE & REVIEW: Just Say Yes (Strictly Business #2) by Elizabeth Hayley✩★✩

25056603

From the author of The Best Medicine comes the latest Strictly Business novel—and this time, for one woman, finding the ideal man can be a pretty tall order…

Magazine columnist Quinn Sawyer has always attracted sweet, innocent, and safe men. And something tells her it’s because she’s just as harmless. So when she starts craving a guy with an edge, she realizes she may have to get one for herself.

When her boss asks for a unique pitch, Quinn’s quest to live outside her comfort zone prompts her to suggest an idea that will cause her to break her good-girl rules. And who better than Tim Jacobs to help her push her boundaries? For a while now, Quinn’s had a hot crush on the tattooed executive chef with a checkered past. If anybody can bring out her inner rebel, he can.

It’s no surprise that with every task the two complete, the sparks between them grow more and more intense. Soon there’s no denying the attraction they each feel. But Tim’s troubled past reveals an even tougher edge than Quinn expected—which means for her, falling in love might just be the greatest rebellion of all.

Just Say Yes by Elizabeth Hayley
Quinn and Tim
YO, ADRIEN, I DID IT!

Ok, so I’ve read many EH books in my time and this one just didn’t do it for me. I liked it, it was funny, it had a good storyline, but I just didn’t love it. It has some emotion towards the last 25%, but up until then it just seems to be on an even keel. I’ll admit to laughing out loud a few time as I always do with EH books, but I felt it could have had a little more angst earlier on in the story.

Quinn is stuck in a rut. She’s always been the “good girl” and she’s always played it safe, but when an opportunity arises at work, she simply can’t refuse. Writing an article about living outside the box is something she knows nothing about so she enlist the help of her “friend” Tim. She comes up with a list of things she’d otherwise NEVER do and Tim helps her carry those tasks out. I must say that “pose nude” part was freakin’ hot and the girl talk between Quinn and her girl posse was hilarious. Follow Quinn on her quest to live outside her comfort zone.

Tim is a recovering drug and alcohol addict. He’s been clean for 7 years, works as Executive Chef at a cool new restaurant and going strong. He struggles with wondering if he’ll ever be good enough for anything or anyone, but helping Quinn with her list I believe is showing him how worthy he really is. He does tend to be a dick at times, but never fear, Quinn is here and she’ll peel away those layer of distrust and self loathing if it’s the last thing she does.

The supporting characters were pretty cool. Tim’s brother Scott was very supportive and pleasant. Roger Whitaker <– cracked me up… is that a folk singer from the 70’s! Anywho… Roger, Tims’ sponsor was one of my faves. He gave it to you straight and was always there when Tim needed him. Now the girl posse…those bitches say what they mean and mean what they say… We all need friends like that in our group.

So, this was not my fave, but it was a pretty good book. The pacing kinda lagged for me a bit till around 75% and then some angsty shit starts to happen. The storyline is good, the dialogue flowed fairly well, and the tension (for me) could have been a little more intense. I still look forward to reading more from this crazy duo… Elizabeth and Hayley!

Elizabeth Hayley is actually “Elizabeth” and “Hayley,” two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands’ chagrin).

They live with their husbands and kids in a suburb of Philadelphia. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.

Elizabeth Hayley’s writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: “I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind.”

✰✰MY REVIEW✰✰

Glow by Beth Kery
Dylan & Alice Continued…
BANG… GO TEAM RED!!

So, this is the succeeding installment and conclusion in the Glimmer and Glow series. It was just as gripping if not more so than the initial book. I’ll admit I didn’t want to throw my kindle across the room so much with this one, but I did acquire the white knuckle syndrome a time or two. This one keeps you on your toes and maintains a constant “who done it” feel.

Alice is still one of my favorites. If I had to be one character from this book, it would be Alice. She’s still as strong as ever and her demeanor never waivers. She’s faced with so much turmoil and chaos that most people would have folded by now, but not her. Alice seems to be on a mission to find out who she is, where she belongs, and who she can trust along the way. She never once felt weak or pathetic to me in fact quite the opposite. This woman has charm, smarts, and a rockin’ bod to boot. Love me some Alice Reed!

Dylan, I guess lightened up a bit in this one. He doesn’t seem as mysterious and puzzling. He is however kind of a pain in the ass! At times I wish he would have revealed more than he does, but I guess that just made the story that much more interesting. He’s still the CEO of Durand and he’s still Alice’s biggest advocate, but he still manages to piss me off a time or two. Dylan has his suspicions as to who the “bad guy” is but can’t quite fit all the puzzle pieces together, this in itself frustrated me to no end.

The supporting characters cast is the pretty much the same as the first book. Thad, Brooke, Kuvi, and that SOB Sebastian. I reviewed the first book telling you that I hated Thad and Brooke and if they changed their ways I’d recant my earlier statement, well… I wouldn’t say exactly that they miraculously turned into good peeps, but they seemed to “grow up” a bit and became more enjoyable characters to read about. As for Sebastian, I let you figure him out on your own. I know I wanted to throw that fucker off a cliff!

The storyline is very compelling. It’s gripped me from the very beginning. The dialogue flowed yet the pacing was a little sluggish. I found myself skipping around at times just to read the conversations, but other than that, the tension and stress leading up the climax was pretty spot on.
