#Review – The Red Ledger by Meredith Wild @wildmeredith

Some people measure life in hours. Days. Weeks. I measure mine in kills. A covert military mission gone wrong robbed me of my memory and any link to my past. This is my existence now. I execute and survive. Nothing more, nothing less. I was ready to write Isabel Foster’s name in my ledger of unfortunate souls until she uttered the one word that could stop the bullet meant for her. My name.

She knows my face. She knows me. She’s the key to the memories I’m not sure I want back. Now nothing is simple. I still have a job to do, and my soul isn’t worth saving. I’m not the man she thinks I am. I can’t love her. And sparing her life puts us both in the crosshairs.

Tristan & Isabel
5 Stars

Aside from Misadventures of a City Girl, this is really my first Meredith Wild book. I own a few of her books, but never got around to reading them. Then laying in bed one night, looking through my stash I came across The Red Ledger and figured I’d give it a try. Holy hell, this was bold and audacious and fairly frightening.

Tristan is a complex character. On the surface he seems cut and dry. He’s notified of his mark, takes out the mark, and he moves on. Problem is the current mark knows him and he thinks he may know her also. Throw in the fact that he has lost part of his memory and this girl could be the key to regaining what memory he lost, but does he really want that? Does he care that not killing her puts them both in danger? Auoy Vey!

Isabel is running from a past she can’t possibly forget, but none-the-less she tries. Perfectly content with how her life has progressed only to have to turned upside down and inside out when she sees the past she’s worked so hard to bury.

The supporting character cast is small and not worth too much of a mention, but I’m sure throughout the saga we’ll meet more characters.

So to wrap this up, The Red Ledger is a CLIFFY peeps… I wasn’t aware of that when I started it, but whatevah… It’s very compelling and had me enthralled instantly. The characters are intriguing and powerful. The writing style was fantastic, and the pacing is fast. It’s not too dark, but enough to make it feel angsty.
