Review: Dirty Bastard by Jessica Clare

Billionaire roughneck Knox Price finds himself twisted by desire for a yoga teacher in this new romance by the New York Times bestselling author of Dirty Scoundrel.

Knox Price has always fallen short in comparison to his brothers. Boone is the ambitious one. Clay is the nice one. Gage is the handsome one. And Knox? Well, he’s the cynical one. The odd man out in the ultra-wealthy but rather unique Price family. It’s not that Knox hates people–it’s that humanity always disappoints him. When you become an oil-rich, Texan billionaire overnight, people treat you a certain way. Just once he’d like to meet someone that isn’t dazzled by his wallet.

Then, he meets struggling yoga teacher Lexi Brandon. She’s weird. She’s unpredictable and tends to say strange things. She lurks in the bushes and dresses in all black. She loves when people cross the street to get away from her. Lexi’s definitely not his type, but she’s also the first one to ever truly see him and not just another rich, dirty Price.

And that’s…fascinating. But how do you catch the interest of a woman who goes out of her way to be odd? When an unexpected surprise throws them both for a loop, Knox decides it’s time to get down and dirty, abandon the rules, and be who he truly is–a bastard.

MY REVIEW

Dirty Bastard by Jessica Clare
Knox & Lexi
I KEEP FALLING IN LOVE WITH THESE GUYS
5 Stars

Wow… I mean… WOW!! These Roughneck Billionaire boys just keep getting hotter and hotter. Just when you think you know them and what they’ll do, they surprise you. I don’t know whether to scratch my watch or wind my butt!

Knox is your discreet, prankster type. He’ll put ketchup in your beer and sit back and patiently wait the show. He’s wise to the gold digging women out there and prefers his life to be as uncomplicated as possible. Wait till he meets Lexi, shit’s about to get real.

Lexi (short for Meredith – lmao) is yoga instructor. A good one, but business isn’t always so “busy.” Maybe it’s her “charming” personality. She’s a recluse and prefers her solitary lifestyle. Don’t mistake me; even though she’s a hermit, her one liners and zingers are amazing… she made me laugh out loud multiple times.

The best part about this story is that it has all the elements to perfectly round it out. There’s suspense, love, sex, humor, and the writing style is flawless. The pacing is fast, the dialogue flows nicely, and the characters are entertaining. I loved it!

Review: Look the Part by Jewel E. Ann

Flint Hopkins finds the perfect tenant to rent the space above his Minneapolis-based law office.

All the t’s are crossed and i’s dotted on Ellen’s application. Her references are good. And she’s easy on the eyes.

Until …

Flint discovers Ellen Rodgers, Board-Certified Music Therapist, plays music. Bongos, guitars, singing—not Beethoven administered through noise-cancelling headphones.

The cut-throat attorney serves up an eviction notice to the bubbly, constantly humming redhead who’s too sexy for her own good. But luck is on Ellen’s side when Flint’s autistic son, Harrison, takes an instant liking to her. A single dad can’t compete with guitars—and rats. Yes, she has pet rats.

This woman …

She’s annoyingly happy with a constant need to touch him—adjust his tie, button his shirt, invade his space, and mess with his mind.

Still …

She must go.

Their lust-hate relationship escalates into something beautiful and tragic. This sexy, romantic-comedy explores the things we want, the things we need, and the impossible decisions parents and children make to survive.

Look the Part by Jewel E. Ann
Flint & Ellen & Harrison
MY HEART IS FULL
5 Stars

I read this on recommendation from Pam Godwin… seems she fangirls over Ms. Ann a lot and I can’t blame her one bit! This book was amazing and amusing and emotional and everything I needed to make me feel complete!

“Feelings are our greatest compass. They will always lead you to the truth.”

Flint is a man struggling with mistakes he made in the past. He punishes himself daily and without even knowing, he punishes those around him also. His life has become a series of calculated events that even his friends, co-workers, and son have noticed are in need of a facelift.

“It’s extraordinarily hard to acknowledge our imperfections, especially when they cause something so devastating… but you are in fact just like everyone else. You’re human, Flint.”

Ellen has a past also, but I wouldn’t go as far to say she’s punishing herself for it, more like she’s closed off in certain areas so to speak. She’s a music therapist and as far as I’m concerned a damn good one. Her personality and wit captured my heart immediately and I’m fairly certain she’s one of my favorite female characters.

“You can be an ass all you want. You can try to make me feel inferior and unwanted, but I am not that girl anymore. So go fuck your own hand. I’m sure it’ the only thing you consider a ten, you egomaniac.”

The supporting character cast isn’t too large. The only one I feel like mentioning are Flint’s son Harrison “Harry” to Ellen, Harry is amazing and his candor made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. He’s autistic and reminds me of my favorite nephew therefore I connected with him right away. People need to be more like Harry!

“Something about a scale from one to ten. My dad said you’re a seven. Which is weird. Seven’s like a seventy percent. That’s a D at my school. Sixty-six to seventy is a D.”

Well, I started out devouring this book. Turning pages so fast because I couldn’t get enough, but I realized that I’d be done soon and… well… I couldn’t have that. I did not want this one to end. Ms. Ann brought out every emotion my body could manifest. The storyline is unique and the characters are like old friends. The dialogue flows nicely and the pacing is perfect. The tension was thick and the climax is superb. I loved it!

Step Four: Remember- when life happens, it does it in a heartbeat.

MY REVIEW

When Life Happened by Jewel E. Ann
This is the section where I put the H/h names, but I really can’t… I can’t explain it either. All I can say is PARKER!!!
5 Stars all the way!!!

Step One: Buy e-book because Pam Godwin recommended it to me and told me NOT to read any of the reviews… apparently there are still DICKS out there who put spoilers in their reviews without any warning! Incidentally, Pam was freaking way the fuck out about this book and she was only 40% into it.

Step Two: Find out Jewel E. Ann is at the same signing we’re at (Penned Con 2017) and I make my way over to her table to buy a signed copy of said book. Did I mention I went back a second time to buy another copy to give away on Rough Draft Book Blog?

Step Three: Sit my ass in a comfy chair and get down to the nitty gritty of reading this wild book… Holy shit! Can’t peel face away from book…

Step Four: Read said book in one day because I couldn’t freakin’ put the damn thing down. And now I completely appreciate Pam’s fangirling over Ms. Ann and this fanfuckingtastic tale!

I am in love with this book, this story, and all its characters! When I finished reading it I was satisfyingly content. Ms. Ann brought these characters to life in a way that connected directly to my heart from the very beginning.

Parker is a conundrum of emotions. She’s fucked up from the past and the future’s not looking too bright at the moment. I get now why when I asked Pam to describe this book, she kinda stuttered a bit and shrugged her shoulders. There’s not much I can say without giving too much away.

This is definitely not a light hearted read. It’s not dark either. Shit, what the hell am I trying to say? It’s very serious and penetrating yet laced with enough humor to put an occasional smile on your face. The storyline is so enthralling that by the time you reach the inevitable plot twist, you’ll be too captivated to turn back. At least I was. And it doesn’t stop there! Sit down, strap in, and get ready for a bumpy ride.

This is my first Jewel E. Ann book, but it won’t be my last. I love the way she throws down the words and makes them all dance across my heart! Fantastic read!

MY REVIEW

Wallflowers: Double Trouble by C.P. Smith
Sienna & Bo
I’VE NEVER GIGGLE SO MUCH
5 STARS

Seriously folks… this is a “Romantic Suspense,” so don’t get me wrong. It’s packed full of suspense, but equally packed with humor…. Lots and lots of humor. How can you not laugh at these Wallflowers? They do and say some of the funniest shit that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud… even on the treadmill at the gym.. I got some funny looks, but kept on laughing!

Sienna is just like the rest of them. Headstrong, heartstrong, and has a will of steel. At times I wanted to high five her and join in the festivities and other times I was like, girl you betta not! She reminds me of someone I know!! (wink wink). I guess the best part of this book for me was the crazy antics the girls found themselves into. I want to BE a Wallflower!!

Bo is all kinds of crazy… but I guess you have to be to take on a Wallflower. He starts out kind of set in his ways, but before long he’s finding himself caving to the predicaments Sienna and the girls get themselves into. Poor guy! He does have back up, but in my opinion, no amount of back up is enough to handle Sienna, Poppy, and Cali! LOL!

I loved all the supporting character cast. I like to see the past and future main characters mingling with the current ones. CP always finds a way to bring everyone back so that we can get a glimpse into what’s happening with their lives or (wink wink) what is sure to happen in an upcoming book!

This story is gripping, hilarious, and sensual. I found it flowed very nicely and the storyline was captivating. The characters are commanding and the tension immense. It’s not a dark read, but definitely not light either. I loved the ending even though it hooked me for the next book… I’ll be thinking about a biker dude for a while now!
