Beneath Blood and Bone (Thicker Than Blood #2) by Madeline Sheehan and Claire C. Riley

It is the end of the world…

They call him Eagle. Like the grand and beautiful animal that symbolizes freedom. And during these dark times, when humanity is full of nothing but suffering, a man with such a powerful name should be a beacon of hope.

He is anything but.

Her name is Autumn. Though she hasn’t said this name, or much of anything else, in the four years since the fall of civilization. A shell of her former self, and living wild in a cave at the bottom of a ravine, Autumn is accustomed to being alone. She prefers it actually, especially when her only other options for company are either trying to kill her, or worse, lock her up inside their walls.

Captured by Eagle’s people Autumn is suddenly thrust back into the land of the living, though she would hardly call it living. The community of Purgatory is full of sinners, the most evil of which seem to have set their sights on her.

In an act born of anger and defiance, Eagle becomes Autumn’s unexpected savior forcing these two solitary people into one another’s broken worlds. Neither knows quite what to make of the other, but one thing is certain.
To survive Purgatory, they will need to learn how to rely on each other; a feat that could quite possibly teach them how to live again.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00005]

Suit (Twin Duo #1) by Jettie Woodruff (Uber Angsty)

When my sister, Isabelle showed up, just ahead of a tropical storm, nostalgia and a need to reconnect took us on a ride…directly into the eye of a different kind of disaster. I woke from a coma unaware that I even had a twin and married to a man with two little girls. Although I fell madly in love with the children that I didn’t remember, I didn’t feel like I belonged with Paxton Pierce. I couldn’t be who he wanted me to be no matter how hard I tried. But things aren’t always as they seem. I fought my own demons, trying not to be the submissive he required me to be, yet I craved it like a drug. I wanted him.
Once upon a time I was an identical twin.
And then I wasn’t.

Joseph Fall (The Estate #0.5) by M.S. Willis (One of the most fucked up books I think I’ll ever read)

There is a fine line between genius and madness…
Between love and hate,
Between right and wrong.

Joseph had created The Estate for her…
His wife,
The woman he chose to bear his child.
She was beauty unsurpassed;
And her song was unlike anything he’d ever known.

However, their love was a story that would not find a happy ending.

In this prequel novella to the Estate series, follow Joseph Carmichael as he creates a world unlike any other. Because, in order to comprehend The Estate, you must understand Joseph; but, in order to understand Joseph, you must discover how a man falls from light into the pitch black depths of ultimate darkness.

The Bourbon Kings (The Bourbon Kings #1) by J.R. Ward (Loved it)

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

THICKER THAN BLOOD

Thicker Than Blood (Thicker Than Blood #1) by Madeline Sheehan and Claire C. Riley (This is one of those genres I don’t usually read, but loved it)

A true friendship never dies.

Leisel and Evelyn lost everything. Husbands. Families. Friends. Lives that made sense. All they had left was each other, and a friendship that could withstand anything…

Even an apocalypse.

Until one fateful night, the marginal safety they’d come to rely on comes to a vicious and brutal end. With the help of Alex & Jami, both unlikely allies, Leisel and Evelyn are able to escape their shattered sanctuary only to find themselves face-to-face with a much altered, much crueler life where they have to find the way—and the will—to stay alive in a world they no longer recognize.

Traveling across a broken and infection-ridden country; the road-weary group are pitted against endless violence, improbable circumstances, and the ultimate loss.
Everything comes at a price—especially safety, the cost of which could very well strip them of the one thing they’ve tried so hard to cling to: their humanity.

Yet along with all the trials they’re forced to endure, there’s also hope in the form of love. Having loved Leisel from afar, Alex attempts to put the pieces of her fractured heart back together.

But in such a savage world, is there room for love?

In a place of nightmares-made-reality, where the living should be feared far more than the dead, an unbreakable friendship and a love amongst all odds can mean the difference between life and death.

There are friends…

And then there are Leisel and Evelyn.

vandal cover

Vandal (Ashes & Embers #2) by Carian Cole (Oh God, this man, this book, so broken)

She takes my breath away; she is so beautifully damaged.
Yes I had broken her, ravished her life, destroyed her happiness. I brought her to ultimate despair. I was responsible for all the pain and suffering that now brought her to her knees in front of me.

Broken.
Hopeless.
Reckless in her agony.

She is a mirror of my own tortured soul.

But what I took away I can give back.
In ways she cannot even begin to imagine.

She is everything right in all my wrongs.

She loves me. She needs me.

She has no idea I’m the one who wrecked her life.

** Vandal is a dark romance with light BDSM. He is emotionally damaged and manipulative, but still wants love. This book deals with death, grief, deception, substance abuse, depression, and graphic sex. If this is not your thing, you can skip this book and move onto the next in the series and you will not be lost. Vandal is not the sweetheart that the other guys in Ashes & Embers are – but even the dark and damaged deserve to be loved, right?

Fervent (Condemned Series Book 3) by Gemma James (This series made my skin crawl and my eye twitch)

Fervent is the third book in the Condemned series.

I never imagined things could get worse, but they do. The men who took us show no mercy. They won’t stop until they’ve destroyed Rafe for something he has no memory of, and I’m their weapon of choice.

Tortured and defiled, they make me wish I was back in that cabin where death was favorable to drawing another breath, but our captors can’t break what’s already broken.

What scares me is the madness I see festering inside Rafe. I’ve taken his freedom, his career, his reputation, yet despite all I’ve done, he’s determined to fight for me, kill for me, give everything he is for me.

He’ll even die for me.

NOTE TO READERS: FERVENT is a new adult dark romance with disturbing themes and explicit content, including sexual scenes and violence that may offend some. Intended for mature audiences. Part three of the CONDEMNED series. This is not a stand-alone read! Please begin with TORRENT and RAMPANT, otherwise, FERVENT might not make much sense.

Unlawful Desire (ALFA Private Investigations #2) by Chelle Bliss (What can I say, I have a slight Chelle Bliss obsession.  This is an excellent new series)

My fiancée ripped a piece of my heart out when I caught her with another man. It made me jaded, and I swore off relationships. But as with any plans, life had a way of making me its bitch.

When a way too young bombshell walked into my world, my heart began to beat again. Georgia asked me for one night—nothing more—and with no strings attached.

Our night of passion turned my universe upside down.

When she almost slipped out of my life, I knew I had to make her mine. Willing to do anything to protect her, I took justice into my own hands. My feelings for her brought out a side of me I thought I’d left behind.

I had to lose myself to be found again.

Without Me (Men of Inked #7) by Chelle Bliss

I’d led a selfish existence.

I liked who I was. Hell, I loved myself.

Women threw themselves at me and I took what they offered without remorse. I promised them nothing.

I sank my teeth into life, holding on to the bitch like my very existence depended on it.

Time passed.

Women came and went.

The second I let my guard down and released the hold I had on life… What was my award for such carelessness?

A love so spectacular and heart wrenching that it threw me for a loop. When I was in too deep to escape, my greatest fears became reality.

This is my story.

My downfall.

My salvation.

The Decimation of Mae

The Decimation of Mae (The Blue Butterfly #1) by D.H. Sidebottom

The Devil visited me three times in my life; albeit, my short life. Not in the physical sense, you must understand, but very much literally.

He was persistent, resolute and tenacious. His ruthless greed to annihilate me was utterly disturbing. I am sure if he had hierarchy, the man at the top would have dragged his arse into Hell’s prison for his unscrupulous methods.

I was just fifteen when I first became aware of what he was capable of. This initial taste of him set the playing field for how my life was to be lived – for want of a better word.
He mocked me, showed me mercilessly how he played the game and how he liked to cheat at said game. He ridiculed and taunted me until, six months later, he won and took something of so much importance from me that I would never be the same again.

His second visit was, in my eyes, so much more cruel and heartless. I know we’re talking about the Devil here, and yes, you have a right to say he had no heart but even then, even when I was so utterly broken, I begged to differ and hoped – no, prayed – that somewhere deep in the caverns of his black, tortured soul there was something that beat and confused his emotions once in a while.

The third visit was somewhat different than the other two. He tried, and at first succeeded to bring me to my knees once and for all, but then something happened. God finally intervened and altered Satan’s intention; he sent hope and morphed the Devil’s minion into an Angel, hoping to break and shatter the anguish and suffering. He gave the ability for me to feel pleasure in pain, order in the chaos and light in the darkness.
But in giving me a reprieve, he also gave me something that would finally and ultimately obliterate me. He gave me the capability to love, therefore giving me the ability to be destroyed.
And Satan made sure that I was destroyed. Cruelly, viciously and sadistically.

I am Mae Swift, and this is the story of my decimation.

***WARNING***
This story doesn’t contain hearts and flowers, it doesn’t even contain the word ‘love’. It isn’t for the fainthearted, nor those who want romance and happy ever afters. It’s dark, in fact it goes beyond the dark realms of misery and despair. It contains disturbing scenes of sexual violence, cruelty and torture. It also includes self-harm, pain addiction and brutalisation.

Please bear this in mind before purchasing this book. Thank you.

►MY REVIEW◄

Beneath Blood and Bone by Claire C. Riley & Madeline Sheehan
Eagle & Autumn
THIS ONE EFFED ME UP

I’m not entirely sure why it took me so long to review this book. I think I finished it a couple days after release but I’m guessing that it fucked me up that much that I had to put it aside and not think about it for a while. Beneath Blood and Bone is extremely horrifying. At times it even seems completely hopeless and like there’s no way out of this hell hole that Eagle in Autumn live in.

We get to meet Eagle in the first book Thicker Than Blood, and he is a total freaking asshole back then and it doesn’t seem to get any better in this one. I get that he’s harboring a million and a half horrendous memories from when life was normal. In this installment we get more insight into his early life. Back when he was a husband and a father and Jeffers was his best friend and neighbor. Even though Eagle seems to have become a better person in this part of the story, I seriously can not forgive him for the shit he did to Leisel, Evelyn, and Alex. Back in the first book.

Autumn seems to be a frightened a little mouse. She comes to Purgatory literally covered in shit, her own shit. She claims that it keeps the “biters” away. NO Freaking way would I smear my own shit on my body. There is other ways of camouflaging your scent, but Autumn being so young this is all she could think of. I have to give her credit, for being so young and surviving out in the wild alone. She actually cracked me up with her antics through the brothels trying to clean her up, to Eagle trying to clean her up, and Eagle trying to help her fit in within the walls of Purgatory. She’s actually smarter than you think, it just takes her awhile to realize what’s right and what’s wrong. I do like her, don’t get me wrong, but more times than not I wanted to slap the shit out of her, no pun intended!

The supporting character cast in this installment I either loved or hated. I loved Adam. He is so kind and lovable and seems to welcome Autumn with open arms. Jeffers is still a douche bag that still does not know his ass from a hole in the ground, and still taking shit from Liv. Now Liv on the other hand I want to choke the living shit out of her. Madeline and Claire if you write another book about this series pretty please with an insane amount of sugar on top kill that fucking bitch off. Make her death last uber long and be extremely painful! I’m begging you! She’s evil with a capitol E and she’s doesn’t seem to care about anybody but herself! Damn it, see I’m getting all worked up because of that C_NT!!!

So, this was not my fave… it was good and the writing style was effortless to read, it was the story line that I kinda detested. I liked getting to know Eagle on a more personal level, but I wanted to hear more about Leisel and how she’s doing out there. I wanted Liv to die a painful death. AND most importantly, I wanted to see someone working on a cure for this Vaal Fever! The pacing is perfect, the highs and lows were, eh, ok! I liked it a lot, just didn’t love it.

4 Stars

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Madeline: Welcome to my world of fantastical romances,
full of unconventional love, and unscripted emotions
so real, so raw,
breaking all the rules, blurring all the lines,
yet basking in their glory, shining as bright as sun,
unapologetically glowing even under
the narrowed stares of society
and its screaming, self-righteous morals,
berating and judging that which it doesn’t understand.

Welcome to my world where people become reasons,
scars become stories, where fate rules,
and destiny is everything.

Welcome to my world where magic isn’t just a myth,
but a part of your soul.

Welcome to my world where love isn’t easy
and it’s more than just a little bit crazy.
But it’s always worth it.

Welcome to my beautiful and ugly world.
Where everything has beauty. Even the ugly.
Because without the ugly, there would be no beauty.
Because without beauty, we would not survive our pain,
our sorrow and our suffering.

Welcome to my imagination, dear reader.
…and please, enjoy your stay.

WELL, IT’S ALMOST MY BIRTHDAY… SHUT UP ANYWAYS!!!

REVIEW

Shut Up and Kiss Me by Madeline Sheehan & Claire C. Riley

Will & Mila

A FOREVER CAN’T BE BUILT ON LIES

I saw this book come up for sale… And when I saw that it was co-written by Madeline Sheehan, it’s a no-brainer for me… You buy it! I could sit through an insurance seminar if Madeline Sheehan was giving it. Her books have been rocking my world for a few years now and I’ve never read a bad one. This book was no different. I guess it could be in the contemporary romance category however there is suspense, there’s action, there’s hot steamy erotic sex. And just when you think things can’t get any better, they get worse!

“One night stands are like the rest areas off the highway: you stop to send a quick text and refresh yourself before resuming your travels. It’s the five star hotel you should be looking for! Full of amenities and shit like that!”

Mila is all kinds of fucked up. She’s living in New York City with her friend Nikki on the run from what I can only guess is an evil, hateful, and shady past! She seems to have her shit together and live each day for what it is, another day above ground. When she meets William, her life seems to instantaneously transform, until her past comes trickling in. Will Mila come clean? How will she incorporate the information from her past into her future with Will?   Will she run?

William Bellamy Townsend III is a beautiful man inside and out. He comes from a very wealthy, very well known, and very discourteous family. Although that may have been his upbringing, Will is definitely a millionaire with a heart!   Will has set out to earn his own fortune away from the family business and doing quite well. He’s sick of the normal gold digging girls that he usually sleeps with and he’s searching for something real… Enter Mila!

The supporting character cast in this book was good. Mila’s best friend Nikki was a tiny little spitfire that doesn’t take shit from anyone! My kinda girl!   At times it seemed that Nikki was the only backbone Mila had and thank God for that. William’s family was just dreadful. That Mother and sister of his… man oh man, I wanted to put Nair in both their shampoo bottles! I’d have to say, Richard (Will’s driver) was one of my faves… there’s a story there, just not sure it’ll get told. Richard was always calm, cool, and collected with an enormous sense of humor!

This story was phenomenal and kept me glued to the pages from start to finish! The pacing is flawless, the dialogue flows and feels exceedingly natural, and the characters (lead & supporting) were very relatable. It will make you laugh through tears, make you cringe and bite your nails, but rest assured, it will also make you grin from ear to ear.

5 Freakin’ Stars!!!

Now, though, in his thirties, he’s bored, and seeking more from his life than mindless sex, and even worse—mindless women. Spotting Mila from across the club, he senses right away that she’s different from what he’s used to, an observation that proves true.

One night together will change everything for both of them. Pasts and futures will collide, secrets will be revealed, and the results will transform both their lives forever.

☣REVIEW☢Thicker Than Blood by Madeline Sheehan & Claire C. Riley☣

Thicker Than Blood by Madeline Sheehan and Claire C Riley

Leisel & Evelyn

THELMA & LOUISE MEET THE APOCALYPSE

I received this book free from the Author for an honest opinion

I totally gave myself 24 hours between finishing this and reviewing it. Should be enough time to calm down right? Wrong!!! I am still speechless. I can’t believe I loved a book like this. I can’t believe how connected I got to these characters and their horror story! This is a story of survival in the truest sense of the word. It will slash open your soul, tear your heart out, and leave you feeling content, yet sad! And just when you think it can’t get any worse for these two courageous girls, it does! Thicker Than Blood is, well, Thelma and Louise meet World War Z and then stubble upon Mad Max!

Leisel, oh my God, Leisel! I wanted to shriek from the rooftops… “You are not nothing, you are not an empty head and a pretty face,” and most importantly, “You are NOT just a hole to fuck!” This woman had my full attention from the very beginning. Throughout this story, she endured so much heartbreak, so much death, and so much misfortune that I myself would have given up and imploded in on myself. Not Leisel. No way. Of course she always had a powerful cheerleader in her corner, Evelyn! I’m not sure she would have made it as far as she didn’t without her “Eve”! I wear my pink fuzzy slippers proud today!

Now Evelyn was my hero all along! She kept her chin up through thick and thin and never tried to look back. Eve was the optimist in this fucked up relationship. Always looking and marching forward onto new and hopefully better things. She not only kept Leisel going, but she kept me going as well. The things this woman underwent to procure much needed supplies for her friends nearly killed me. Her need to be Leisel’s keeper and protector was overwhelming and awe-inspiring. I could only hope for such a great friend in my lifetime!

Great supporting character cast. Alex, Jami, E, Jeffers, Liv, and so many more. Although Alex played more of a main character, I felt he was still in the supporting role. He’s the silent but deadly type. He made me swoon more times than I can count! What a first-class guy. Though he may describe himself as something all together diverse, his heart was in the right place. Now, for Jeffers, E, and Liv, well, I have no words! Wait! I do have some words. Jeffers is a pussy wiped asshole who wouldn’t know his ass from a whole in the ground if Liv didn’t show him the difference. Liv is a huge, giant, gaping cunt that should be swallowed up by the depths of hell. And E, well, I’m not sure what to think about him just yet, the jury’s still out on that one. I’m sure he had good intentions, but his mannerisms and his gait scared the hell outta me!

Of all the places our characters were and/or visited, Purgatory, the church, Hotel de la Zombies, (ha – love that one), The Cabin, or the Inn… Purgatory was the one that stood out to me. It seemed to run like a well oiled machine. A dirty, filthy well oiled machine with Satan and the helm. Looking forward to revisiting that place in the near future!

Ok, so, to wrap this up and tell you all to go buy this one ASAP!!! It’s scary, it’s dark, it’s actually funny sometimes, and within it’s 366 (kindle version) pages, you’ll be intimidated, freaked way outta your mind, and unexpectedly satisfied. Thicker Than Blood is persuasive. It will take you to the top of the food chain and drop your ass off into the pits of hell. The dialogue flows, the storyline is powerful, and the tension created by these two amazing women will leave you breathless.

5 Stars!
